My name is Susan, I’m a 23-year-old from New Brunswick, Canada. I recently graduated from university with an undergraduate degree in journalism and communications. I now work at a local radio station reading and reporting the news. I started my current journey in June 2008. While I’ve never been an extremely overweight person, I’ve also never been on the smaller side of things. I spent much of my high school and university years as a lethargic vegetarian. While most would say I was a healthy eater, I had no concept of how to balance my meals both calorically and nutritionally. Throw excessive amounts of beer into the mix and suddenly I was at my highest weight without even realizing it.
A lot has changed over the past year. I have learned oodles of information on nutrition and how to eat properly. Calorie counting and macronutrient ratios have been a real eye opener for me. Once I started getting the right food, I discovered I had a lot more energy. This led to a new found love for exercise and fitness. Something clicked and instead of ditching my gym routine after a month like I did in the past, I’ve now been consistently active for almost a year!

I started this blog to chronicle my journey of achieveing a fitness goal I previously never thought possible – a triathlon. It started as a mere hope and has quickly become a reality. I am by no means a fitness expert, or an excellent chef, but I love the idea of pairing together food and fitness because I find the two are directly related. Blogging also taps into my passion for writing and is a fun way to do some non work-related creative writing!
I love hearing from readers, so don’t be scared to comment or e-mail me at nasusee27@yahoo dot ca :)

Trying for a Tri -
Very inspiring to read your story and see the documentation of you achieving your goals. I see you’re training for a triathlon in July 2009 – wanted to mention our race, the American Odyssey Relay, happening for the first time in April 2009. For more information, you can visit us at http://www.americanodysseyrelay.com.
Good luck in 2009 in achieving your goals!
Happy trails,

I’ve been reading your blog for a couple of weeks now and LOVE it. I especially love all the pictures and food tips/recipes. I’m currently training for my first triathlon (www.amysfirsttri.blogspot.com) and have found your blog really helpful as I really think I’m lacking in the nutrition department. Best of luck to you in your races!
