Okay, so I may have found an apartment. I know I’ve said this before, but that one fell through. So I’m not going to get too excited this time. It’s a nice bachelor apartment with a river view, backyard and a cute beagle next door. Most importantly, it’s in my price range. I don’t want to jinx anything though, so I won’t say much else!
Today was the last day of my “holiday weekend.” I started it the way every morning should begin, with a near empty jar of nut butter.
Plus a pot of chocolate protein oatbran.
Combined, they are a force to be reckoned with.
I need to start going through nut butter faster so this can happen more often. It was beyond dreamy.
I had a whack of errands to run after the holiday yesterday. Fuelled up with my last Quaker simple harvest bar I won in the Fitnessista’s Quaker giveaway.
These were really good! However, like most of these type of granola bars, there isn’t much too them. There are too many other things out there for 150 calories that are more filling (and nutritious).
The highlight of my morning was getting free suckers when I paid my cell phone bill. I love candy!! Especially when it’s free
Came home for a yummy lunch.
Pita pizza with Eden Organic pizza sauce, Yves meatless pepperoni, mushrooms, onion, red pepper, spinach and shredded cheese.
I kept up the pita theme into the afternoon by snacking on some Mother Nature’s pita chips with tzatziki and hummus.
It was delish, but too salty for me! I was thirsty for the rest of the afternoon!
I went to spin class before dinner. It was alright. It wasn’t as intense as I usually like it, which I guess is a good thing since I’m tapering. But I was having tummy issues during the class, so I couldn’t really push it. It was still an hour of sweaty activity though, so I guess that’s good enough. Think I may do a pilates video tomorrow for more light activity. I’m noticing my body gets really stiff and sore when I don’t get some movement in during the day.
Had an appointment to look at another apartment at 7pm, so I had a quick supper in-between.
Grilled ham & cheese sandwich and pea soup…
I don’t eat a lot of soup because I prefer my food solid. I bought this stuff on a whim because of a convincing sample lady at the grocery store.
I was pleasantly surprised! It was thick and quite satisfying. The sodium content is pretty decent for a product like this too. Usually I don’t go over 400-500mg, but considering the price and brand, it’s acceptable. Didn’t taste overly salty either.
My evening snack was notable enough for me to share
Yogurt, fresh blueberries (every season needs to be berry season!!) and some Nature’s Path blueberry cinnamon cereal. I love this cereal as much as the banana kind! The flakes and fibre pieces are super crunchy, and it’s got little freeze-dried blueberries that surprisingly add a lot of flavour. I’m becoming a big fan of Nature’s Path products. Their cereals and waffles are now my favourites
Question: Do you pay attention to sodium content? Besides making me incredibly thirsty, sodium doesn’t affect me that much. But I do try to go with low-sodium foods when I can. I find it’s too easy for it to creep up in my diet, especially when I eat a lot of deli/canned meat, cheese and bread.

dang that pita pizza is loaded! looks so divine.
i don’t really look at sodium content in things, but if i know something has a bunch of sodium i just dont eat it. the only deli meat i can stand is the whole foods kind because it is not overly salty and does not have that slimy texture to it. blech i hate that. it is crazy to think that one package of top ramen has more than the suggested daily sodium mg’s! i have friends who eat two or three packages of those daily. i really hate salt, rarely salt my food or add salt to anything unless it needs it.. but i dont like something if it tastes salty.
i looove natures path cereal! i am hooked on the optimum flakes, just the plain old flakes nothing fancy.. i polished off a box myself in less than a week. it is on sale for me right now too, this could be bad!
dang i need an empty PB jar! first i saw anne doing it and now you, i guess i will just patiently eat my way to the bottom of the jar…
oh, fingers crossed for you on the apartment! And don’t get too disappointed if it doesn’t work out…it only means there is a better one waiting for you!
I don’t pay attention to sodium, but with canned foods, I try to get low sodium because their sodium level is cRRRAAAZY and I prefer to adjust them to my own taste by adding some more salt!
Yay, oats in a jar! I had them this morning, too. So good
Your pita pizza lunch looks delish!
I don’t pay too much attention to sodium–well actually, in Arizona I have to make sure I get enough! I sweat so much in the summer, and I kept getting chronically dehydrated even though I was chugging water like mad. Walking everywhere in that heat will do that to ya.
There was one time I actually had to straight up eat some salt cause I had these intense workouts, and needed to hold on to some fluid! AZ can be crazy. So, I def. err on the side of getting enough sodium, I guess.
I hope the apartment works out!
Oh my goodness, I had my first experience with oatmeal in a PB jar, as well today! And let me tell you, it was spectacular
Hope tapering goes well, and ps, i love your blog
I love Nature’s Path Hemp Plus granola – my favorite of theirs. Yum! And I am going to turn purple from all my blueberries
I am pretty conscious of sodium now. It really makes me retain water. Or processed food makes me retain water. Big reason why I don’t eat lunch meat now. We have decided not to purchase soup in cans anymore – we just make our own. John makes the best clam chowder, too.
However, I find that if I eat mostly whole foods – I have lower sodium intake. I do find that I crave salt at times, particularly after a really sweaty workout.
I tried the oats in the jar a few days back and was left with a badly deformed jar!! I would say I am moderately cautious about the Sodium. Occasionally it gives me next day bloating!
Hope the apartment works out for you!
I rarely pay attention to my sodium intake, but I need to! I don’t even know what the suggested intake is. I know I eat a lot of it, because many Asian foods are high in sodium, and I usually prefer salt to sugar, anyway.
Good luck on the apartment hunt!
keeping my fingers crossed for the apartment! it’s stressful finding somewhere so hope all goes smoothly!
So cool that you got candy when you paid your bill- all I get is a receipt
I keep an eye on sodium but I try not to obsess over it *too* much- I don’t eat a lot of overly processed foods (despite what my blog might showcase
) and I think most of the time am below the limit. I am amazed at how high sodium is in some stuff though that you wouldn’t necessarily expect- I wanted to buy cereal the other day and it had more than the pasta sauce I was buying per serving. Apparently UK cereals have 15% more sugar and salt than American versions! Crazy.
Enjoy your weekend, Susan!
I try not to eat too much sodium because it makes me super bloaty! Your evening snack looks so good.. fresh berries are the best!

OH YUM! Pita pizza, oats in the PB jar, pita chips, soup, everything!! I love it all
I don’t pay attention to sodium BUT I can’t eat things that are extremely salty. What I mean is, when I buy things I never look at the sodium content. My taste buds react strongly to salty foods though – chips are out and Panera is borderline too salty for me.
ahhhhh, good luck with the apartment!!! there’s not much that is more stressful than trying to find a place to live.
loooooooove the oat bran in the peanut butter jar. mmmmmmmmmmm.
Priyanka – Eek!! Maybe the oats were just too good for the jar too handle?
I’ve never considered that before actually, I guess the glass could potentially shatter because of the hot contents…
I hope you get the apartment!
Interesting sodium question – I notice a lot of people stay away from it but other than making me thirsty too, I’m not sure what effect it has on me? I must admit though, I love salt. And I think one of the key reasons I like laughing cow cheese is the high sodium content! I saw a show the other day saying you only need 1 week to kick a salt habit. I think i should probably try it.
We try to because E has high blood pressure, but I don’t notice a ton of change in me other than getting a few less migraines. I do find that I have a hard time eating out sometimes now, because food is just too salty at some joints.
[...] I signed a lease today!! Yup! It’s that apartment I looked at last week. Chris and I drove past it last night, and I realized it’s right on my running trail. All I have [...]
