Hello friends!! T’was a very late work night for me and I am wiped! I’m definitely glad I decided against the spin class today. I slept in a little and got in a sweet brick workout!
Started off with some protein pancakes (recipe on my “Recipe” page!)
Delightful, as always
I then had some brick fuel while watching Regis and Kelly (or Regis and Joy. Joy is a lovely lady, no?)

Naner + PB. Works every time!!!
Well, the good news is that I got through my first brick workout. I decided to do 750m in the pool (no stopping) then 25 minutes on the treadmill. The swimming went awesome. Even with stopping a few times to wait for slow swimmers, I finished in 16:30-ish. My “dream” goal is to do it in 15 minutes, but I’ll take 16 on race day! Endurance-wise, it didn’t get hard until the last 100m. But I think that’s just because I was getting anxious to finish and really pushing it.
My transition from wet pool clothes to dry running clothes was so. freakin. frustrating. I think I need to work on my gym transitions
I got tangled up in my sports bra and my long hair was dripping all over the place.
Once I did hop on the treadmill, I immediately wished I’d brought my iPod. I don’t normally work out at the pool gym because it’s in a dingy basement with no windows. The treadmills are positioned against a wall mirror, so I had nothing to look at but myself. Ugh. I did not know my cheeks bounced when I run!
Anyways the run stats:
Duration: 30 minutes (including 5 minutes of walking to cool down)
Calories: 243
Max HR: 171
Avg HR: 149
The treadmills were in kilometres and totally confused me. I measure my bike rides in metric, but for some reason I like using miles for running. I did most of it at 9.5 km/hr because it felt just challenging enough without straining my hip. Turns out that’s 5.9 mph. Sounds about right!
I’m a little scared, because running after swimming was tough, I can’t imagine how hard it’s going to be after biking!! And I got soooo sweaty, I’m sure I reeked of sweat and chlorine.
Lunch was one of my fav combos – eggs and tofu.
Up high…
The sandwich is 1/4 block extra-firm tofu, one egg, and a little earth balance spread. Then some cantaloupe and cherries on the side. Ahhh, I love fresh fruit on hot days!!!
I tried another Sol veggie burger for dinner tonight. This time the original.
I really enjoyed the spicy bean so I was excited to try this. Stats and ingredients are almost identical…
I hate it when companies put “spices.” How am I going to recreate it if I don’t know??
These are apparently Canadian as well, so not sure if you non-Canucks can get it.

This burger was screaming to be eaten on one of my new sandwich thins
Yum!! The flavour of the burger was delicious. Sometimes I find myself adding extra spices (ie dousing it in curry and chili powder) to veggie burgers. But this is great just on its own. My only issue with it is the texture. Just a little too soft for me. I’m not sure how well it would hold up on a barbecue.
Oh yes, and more orange in the form of sweet potato chips. For these, I just sliced a sweet tater reeeal thin, pat them dry, seasoned with cajun spice, then zapped between paper towel for 6 minutes. Some were crunchy, some chewy, all were awesome
It was way hot here today, it was a no oven kinda day.
Then I put my reporter face on for a few hours. I even managed to report on two events happening at the same time!! Take that Katie Couric.
Think I’ll save my blog catching up for the a.m. I’m heading straight to bed to fall asleep while watching Jon Stewart. I’ve got an even more exciting brick on the sked for tomorrow – lake swim then bike! I’m doing the actual course for my triathlon. I’m hoping it will help me in the confidence department
Night night!

nice job on the doubling up the reporting! you are going to be famous soon
i can’t wait.
loved reading about both blocks.. the workout and the tofu. you are kicking so much butt on the working out. i cant wait to see how your tri goes!! the anticipation!
Great workout! That sounds intense. Good luck on your brick tomorrow, too! You’re getting great practice for your tri
That burger looks yummy, and I love those sandwich thins! Great job on the reporting, too! That takes skill.
Lake swim then bike sounds like fun! I love Sol burgers, soooo good
Good workout! Sorry about your bouncy cheeks.
I’m sure you look fab while running, swimming ANd biking!
I love banana and PB.. I’m so glad it never fails you!
Great job on the brick!
I find the bike to run transition to feel worse on the legs, but if you give yourself time to get used to it, you will. Bricks are definitely not something I want to do all the time LOL. Not close together, anyway.
I don’t like squishy veggie burgers. My favorites are Bocas and Morningstar grillers.
Hope the water is warm today for your open water swim!
Good luck with your open water swim!!! HAVE FUN!
Way to go with the workout!! That’s great! I love the sounds of the egg/tofu sandwich!
GOOD LUCK TODAY
Hope the weather’s nice for you!!
Hey Susan! I have not tried the seaweed (name escapes me) you recommended but I plan to check it out!
You are such an athlete! You should be so proud of yourself!
Your eats yesterday are very appealing to the eye. Good call on the protein pancakes before a hard workout!
Burger looks great! Being a fellow Canadian, I am going to search for it!
Have a wonderful day!
Eggs and tofu at once?? Oh my, I think I need to try this… Did you just pan fry the tofu or flavour it? What an awesome protein-filled combo.
I would kill for that canteloupe right now! Looks so juicy and refreshing.
I love Regis & Kelly! Not sure I have seen a Joy guest appearance yet. Love both of them, though!
Aslo, RE going to Canada, I’m not sure yet where I’ll go. But I have a friend in Hamilton who I thought I’d visit. Is that near you?
workout sounds great! I always faff around for ages after going swimming and end up getting my clothes all wet and dropping everything
following that up with running would likely cause trouble
Love the stats on the burgers- so many veggie burgers are lacking in protein!
Oh my gosh, read your post about last bike ride… those shoes look tricky!! I hope your knee is better!!
I have a really hard time thinking of my running in terms of km too. I always think in miles when it comes to running speed/distance, which is so weird because I think of everything else in km.
Quick ride today…
32.46kms
28.6 kph avg. !!!
It is soooooooo bumpy here compared to Freddy.
