Things are (relatively) back to normal here after a few days out of town. Back to blogging in my sweaty gym clothes
I obviously didn’t take many pictures while I was gone, seeing as it was a delicate kind of environment. Definitely not appropriate to take food photos at a funeral reception. Which, by the way provided many platters of fancy wraps. None of which I really cared for. I think they used Miracle Whip in them? I am not a fan of the tangy zip, at all.
After the funeral, my mother, Nana and I went to visit my other grandparents who also happen to live in Saint John. It was a really nice visit. Probably the last time I’ll see all my remaining grandparents in the same room together. I’m so lucky to have had the chance to get close with all of my grandparents growing up.
I was planning on going for a run after the visit, but I was wiped. Definitely one of those occasions where I had to listen to my body and ditch the training schedule. So I conked out for an hour and felt much better after waking up. Sometimes a solid nap is just necessary.
I snacked on one of my Nana’s crazy delicious date squares.
Holy yum. It’s a miracle I didn’t demolish this whole tray.
After getting out of my groggy post-nap state, I went to dinner with my mom, Nana and extended fam. We went to Vito’s, a local chain owned by two Greek brothers. There were a few Greek choices, along with your typical Italian and North American fare. I had a Greek salad with grilled chicken. I looooove me a Greek salad.
Chris and I didn’t end up getting together last night. It was late by the time we finished dinner, and he had to be up before dawn this morning. Oh well, I’ll see him on his days off next week I guess. Instead, I hung out with my Nana in the hotel room and watched The Babysitters Club movie on the Family Channel. Oh the memories!!!
For whatever reason, I was the first to wake up this morning at 7:30. I wish I’d taken a picture of brekkie, because I caved and made myself a waffle! It was sinfully delicious, I smothered it in peach yogurt and had a couple boiled eggs for my protein
I left right after breakfast, and my drive home was pretty uneventful. I planned on going to the gym soon after my arrival, so I had lots o’ pre-gym snacks.
A Quaker Simple Harvest trail mix bar, red delicious and a piece of dark chocolate with a few raisins (not shown).
I took my time to let this digest and get settled in after my drive home. I reeeeally did not feel like going to the gym today. It was one of those days where I just had to turn my brain off and get myself out the door. Predictably, I’m happy I went and actually had a really great run.

Today was my first “long run” in my 10k schedule. It was only 3 miles. I wasn’t really keen on doing 3 straight miles on the “dreadmill” so I did Tina’s “3 Mile Challenge.” Here’s what mine looked like:
Warm-up:
3 minutes walking @ 3.5 mph
2 minutes walking @ 4.0 mph
Workout:
1 mile running @ 5.6 mph
2 minutes walking @ 4.0 mph
1 mile running @ 5.8 mph
2 minutes walking @ 4.0 mph
1 mile running @ 6.0 mph
Cool-down:
2 minutes walking @ 4.0 mph
3 minutes walking @ 3.5 mph
I did it all on a 1% incline. I’m happy I was able to break this run up a little, my iPod died after the first 5 minutes so I had to do it in silence! Not that it matters much anyways, I’ve had the same stupid playlist on my iPod for the past two months now because my computer won’t recognize it. (ahem, mom, if you’re reading this, a new iPod Nano would make an awesome grad present!!
)
My recovery shake looks the same, but tasted amazing.

It’s 1 scoop vanilla protein powder, 1 cup almond milk, frozen blueberries and strawberries, and I threw in a mixed berry flavour yogurt cup that I grabbed at the hotel this morning. Yum. The yogurt really kicked this shake up a notch. I think I may have to buy extra yogurt just for smoothie purposes.
Well that’s all from me. I have to go get groceries today, so I’m going to try to plan something fun for dinner. Otherwise, it will be another boring weekend night for me, I work at 5am tomorrow. Have a great Saturday!!
